May 10, 2010 joycepsouth

I went to the hospital this morning thinking I would be bringing mom home.  Doctors decided she was too weak and her blood was too thin.  She will be staying a few more days in the hospital to evaluate her nutritional needs.  She is healing nicely and everything on the chart looks great – except is she does anything as simple as talking it absolutely wears her out.  You can hear in her voice her weakness.  Looking into restarting the supplement nutrition until her body is healed.  Dr. Joyce (me) thinks she does not get enough nutrition for her body to heal and to have energy too.  Her food does not stay in her system in my opinion to be absorbed like it should.  So the little that is absorbed is being used to help her body to heal and there is nothing left over for energy to do anything else.  Her oxygen level even went into the low 90’s last night and she was more comfortable on oxygen.  Continue to pray – we are back to not knowing where we are going and when.

Mary and I are going with our fifth grade sons to their Williamsburg field trip for a couple of days.  I hate to leave mom, but as you might guess – she has insisted that we go.  We were hoping to have her settled in a new location before we left, but that is not working out, so we will see what happens while we are gone.  Thank goodness for fantastic communication!!!

Will try to post at least once while on our trip.

Love to all,

Joyce

Joyce, it’s certainly tough to feel useful from Denver, but I hope that at least you, your mom and the whole family can take some comfort in knowing that I’m sending all the support I can via long distance. I hope you’re able to enjoy your Williamsburg trip at least a little.

Joyce, You are your mother’s daughter – how many times has your mother called herself Dr. Ruth? It’s lovely to see personality traits handed down through the generations. Your mother is receiving excellent care and is surrounded by medical staff that care about her well-being. She does not need the extra concern about you and Mary missing the trip to Williamsburg. You know she meant it with her heart when she told you to go, so go and have fun with the kids.

I don’t know any more now than I did before I read your post. Sounds like the healing process. The oxygen thing doesn’t sound good. I look forward to hearing good reports again.
